V1.87 Update:

  1. The ranges of the captured data can now be configured inside the app (previously called 'calibration', the name was changed to fit it's function better.
  2. Live mode & on device recording can be used simultaneously.
  3. A new text based file format is now available: import scripts..

Next scheduled update:

  1. Update mesh inside of FaceCap.
  2. Custom avatar import (beta).
  3. Improved documentation.

Configuration-feature instructions:

  1. The arrow buttons select the expression to configure.
  2. The name of the current expression and it's current value.
  3. 'Clip' clips negative values to 0.
  4. 'Solo' mutes all other expressions.
  5. The left side of the slider sets the minimum value of the expression's range.
  6. The right side of the slider sets the maximum value of the expression's range.
  7. 'Reset' and 'Reset all' resets expressions to their default range

V1.8 Update:

  1. Unity example project is now available: live mode.
  2. Video recording is back.
  3. Added a 'movie-clapper' for external sound recording sync.
  4. Added a confirmation dialogue for recording.

Face Cap:

Face cap is a facial motion capture solution for iPhone's and iPad pro's that have the true depth front facing camera.

It records & exports the users facial expressions to be used in games, animation, vfx etc.


  1. Records head position & rotation data.
  2. Records +/- 50 blendshape parameters.
  3. Records eye motion.
  4. Records microphone input in sync.
  5. Exports a generic mesh, blendshapes and animation as Ascii-fbx.
  6. Native IOS file management and sharing.
  7. New 'Live mode' added. Send parameter data using OSC.

  1. Application ported to iOS native Swift4.
  2. Improved file management.

  7. Hierarchy of exported Fbx updated for better compatibility.

Importing has been tested with these applications:

  1. Autodesk Maya.
  2. Lightwave 3D.
  3. Cinema 4D.
  4. Houdini. View import settings.
  5. Blender. First convert from ascii fbx to binary fbx using Autodesk fbx converter.

Best practices:

  1. For best results place the iPhone X down or hold it still during recording.
  2. Don't move too close or too far from the 3D camera it's range is limited.
  3. Don't look too far up, down or sideways.
  4. For longer recordings (3 minutes+) the exported files might get too big to transfer via email. Consider using dropbox or another sharing solution if you plan to record longer sessions.
  5. Please use the app in a well lit room for best results.
  6. Don't obscure the face, put long hair up in a pony tail, don't put hands or other objects between the face and the 3D camera.
  7. Post process your recording by filtering out noise/jitter/glitches.
